THE GUEST HOUSE  客棧

The human being is a guest house

Every morning there is a new arrival.

人像是一處客棧
每個清晨都光臨著新的來客

A joy, a depression, a meanness

Some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected

 visitor

愉悅、沮喪、刻薄
這些轉瞬的意念就像不速之客般地不經意地造訪

Welcome and entertain them all

 Even if they are a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep

 your house and empty it from its furniture still, treat each

 guest honourably.

He may be clearing you out for some new delight.

歡迎並且款待他們
即便他們是一群拗客
即便他們橫掃過你的客棧並搬空家俱
仍然，要待之以禮
因為他們可能
正將你從陳腐中踢出
正將你推向新的歡喜

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing

and invite them in.

無論是歹念，羞愧，怨恨
都該在門口笑臉相迎
並邀請他們入內


Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

對任何來客都要心懷感恩
因為他們中的每一個
都是讓你接觸其它化外之境的嚮導
